Megan Downer - Counsellor
Specialising in pregnancy loss and infertility
About Me
I have worked in both hospital and clinic settings where women's health and grief and loss has been my focus. I worked in a Fertility Clinic for 14 years and am therefore familiar with infertility diagnosis, treatments and the medical system. My experience in the pregnancy loss area includes working with people whose babies have died at all stages during the pregnancy or shortly after their birth. I have worked in the recurrent pregnancy loss area supporting people who have had multiple pregnancy losses. I provide counselling for people during and after a termination of pregnancy where there have been medical concerns for the baby or mother's health.
I work with the many issues that can arise when people are faced with pregnancy loss or infertility. These can include depression, anxiety, trauma and stress.
I have a Bachelor of Social Work and a Diploma in Professional Counselling, with membership to the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and the Australia, New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association. These bodies require me to adhere to a code of ethics and to have relevant training and supervision to keep my practice safe and up to date.
My counselling training includes a number of approaches so I am able to work in ways that best suit you and the issues that you bring. What is most important to me is building a safe place for you to share your story and begin to have a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings. We work on what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to get from it. I am able to work with individuals or couples for short or longer periods of time.
